Today

Well I guess this is the first meander point post. I learned that H.M.P. probably references a high meander post. I always thought M.P. stood for meander post or point, but I debated on what the first letter referred to. I convinced myself the first letter was an A. But my friend assured me that there is no reason to put an A before a period. Setting the meander post on the high bank makes more sense than placing it on the low water mark where the post has a greater chance of being lost.

I think it's true that the original field notes for T 4 S. R. 19 W (Var. 5 degrees 35 minutes) run on the S. Boundary of Sec. 36 and that this line began at the Township Corner in the River Saint Joseph (for Township 5 too?).

I'm 120 chains West of the Township 4 South Range 19 West Corner on the South Boundary of Sec. 36: set H.M.P. {B. Oak 9 N. 37 W. 58
                        {W. Oak 26 N.          - 55

That's how the field notes read.

Perhaps tomorrow I will run the south township chains to the boarder of L. Michigan. Only 96.50 more to go.
